e-Reader Use Policy

Borrowing an e-Reader
An e-Reader can be checked out by any patron, 18 or older, with a valid Eastern Shores Library System card in good standing. The borrower’s library account must not have any overdue fines or lost items. The Library Director reserves the right to refuse service to anyone who abuses equipment, is repeatedly late in returning e-Readers, and/or doesn’t follow the proper return procedures.

All e-Reader borrowers will be required to sign an e-Reader User Agreement when checking out an e-Reader. This agreement will be kept on file. Signing the e-Reader User Agreement acknowledges responsibility for any damage to the e-Reader and the e-Reader becomes the responsibility of that borrower. Responsibility for the e-Reader cannot be transferred to another person.

The e-Reader can be borrowed for 14 days and may not be renewed. Only one e-Reader per household may be borrowed at one time. e-Readers are to be picked up (and returned) at the Elkhart Lake Public Library service desk only. You will be contacted by phone or email when the e-Reader is available for you. The e-Reader will be held for 3 days. e-Readers may not be requested via inter-library loan or sent to other system libraries on the delivery van.

Patrons may reserve an e-Reader through EasiCat or call the Library to place a reservation.

Returning an e-Reader
Upon return e-Readers MUST be handed to a library staff member at the Elkhart Lake Public Library service desk to be fully returned. e-Readers MAY NOT be returned in the book drop or to another library. Failure to return the e-Reader properly will result in a fine of $25 and/or revocation of e-Reader borrowing privileges.

When staff checks the e-Readers in, they will verify that it is in operating condition. Staff will do a visual check to ensure the following items are returned in good condition: Digital device (Kindle, Nook, other), carrying case , cover, power adapter, Quick Start Guide, USB cord

Fees and Liabilities:
Overdue charges are $1 per day.

The e-Reader borrower is responsible for full replacement cost if the e-Reader or any parts are lost, stolen, damaged or otherwise not returned. The Library Director will make the final decision regarding damage assessments.

Failure to return the e-Reader properly will result in a fine of $25 and/or revocation of e-Reader borrowing privileges.

Signing the e-Reader User Agreement acknowledges responsibility for any damage to the e-Reader and the current replacement cost which includes the device and/or its accessories in good working order, the patron will be charged the full current replacement cost. Replacement cost will include current retail value of the device, carrying case, power adapter, quick start guide, USB cord and a $10 processing fee.
